Dog Barking
Dogs bark as a way of talking to other animals and people. This “technique” of communicating has been ingrained in them for millions of years, so it isn't likely to dissappear anytime soon, but it can be reduced if you pay attention to why your dog is barking and provide a practical remedy that works for both of you.
The most commonly complained of time that dogs bark is night time. Dogs bark at night for numerous reasons. Your dog could be hungry if you're feeding it in much advance of bed time, or it may need to use the restroom if you haven't let it out of the house before you went to bed. Dogs need food and breaks just like we do, so it's important to be sure they are given what they need; if you don't, they'll probably wake you up by barking in an attempt to let you know what they need.
It's a good idea to take your dog for a walk right before you go to bed and right when you wake up in the morning. Your dog will begin to recognize that this is a routine that they can depend on, and when they need to go really bad and it's almost time to go out – they'll wait for you to wake up. Wouldn't it be great to have your dog wait on you to get out of bed before begging to go for a walk?
